BOCA RESIDENCE

This project sought to address a fundamental problem in Los Angeles housing through a new typological approach:

The Prefinished/Prefabricated master suite.

As with most older homes in Los Angeles, this 1920s Craftsman had 2 small bedrooms, with no master bedroom. Rather than try to incorporate a master suite in the existing house, a new, modern, standalone structure was created at the top of the lot, connected with a generous stairway, capturing the expansive views of downtown LA. The all steel structure features an unique braced frame structural system (allowing for maximum windows with no shear walls) , butterfly roof, and prefinished non-flammable steel siding, framing and interior steel cladding.

Los Angeles Building and Safety Award for outstanding design.
